Our First Successful Event!

Our First Successful Event!

UnLtd HK and HK + Acumen teamed up on Thursday Sept 25 at Oolaa Restaurant for the first Filanthrophy Event, supporting three local organizations: Lizzie Bee, Lensational, and Sticky Rice Love.

Our first live crowd-funding event was a success, thanks to you!  We were unsure if the ‘live crowd-funding’ model, as adopted from Filanthropy in the UK, would work as well in Hong Kong. Well, you showed that it works! With a total of 130 participants, we surpassed our initial goals, and raised over $50,000 HKD – for these three organizations who are scaling up, the impact we have made is enormous.

“Filanthropy has been an absolutely fantastic opportunity for Lensational to raise funds and more importantly, build network with a diverse group of young professionals who are passionate about and supportive of social innovation.”

Just what exactly is the impact our donors’ money? The money raised will enable Lensational to make its impact closer to home, as they expand the local photography program into rural China. Right here in Hong Kong, Sticky Rice Love will be using the funds to build their online and offline support network for young people, so that their sexual health questions no long have to go unanswered. Lizzie Bee, who raised nearly double their target amount, will be deploying the money on materials such as wool and knitting tools to hold many, many more knitting workshops. So, a great big round of applause for everyone that came and supported Filanthropy!

It was such a great opportunity to engage and interact with like-minded individuals that also have an interest to giving back to their community…over half-priced drinks (thanks to Oolaa)!! In case you were not able to attend, you can still check out the inspirational social entrepreneurs that shared their stories with us:

LensLensational aims to empower women economically and emotionally through photography. http://www.lensational.org/
StickySticky Rice Love creates resources for young people to discuss and understand sexual health. http://www.stickyricelove.com
LizzyLizzie Bee develops and delivers art workshops, in which art, artist and community are brought together. http://www.lizziebee.org/

We could not have pulled it off without our dedicated volunteers, loyal supporters, generous corporate matching, and venue sponsor, Oolaa. Together, we gathered to empower women through photography with Lensational, raised awareness for teenage sexual health with Sticky Rice Love, and contributed to keeping people warm and toasty with Lizzie Bee’s hand-knit blankets.

Looking forward to future events! Until next time.
